Second public school hit by H1N1 virus

MANILA – A public high school in the National Capital Region’s neighboring Bulacan province is the second provincial school in the Philippines with confirmed A(H1N1) cases, the Department of Health (DOH) announced yesterday.

Eight students of the Doña Candelaria Meneses Duque High School tested positive for the new flu strain, said Health Secretary Francisco Duque III.

As of yesterday, the total number of infections in the country reached 193.

The first public school to have been struck by the virus was Hilera Elementary School in Jaen, Nueva Ecija province. Eleven of its students were found positive for the virus.

Court denies PGIN motion for writ of preliminary injunction

REGIONAL Trial Court Judge Conrado Ragucos has denied the motion for writ of preliminary injunction filed by the Ilocos Norte government against the Laoag City government for the proposed upgrading of the Laoag City General Hospital (LCGH).
The decision came after an earlier temporary restraining order issued by the same Branch 16 RTC expired and was not extended. 
During the duration of TRO—lapsed on May 3—the city government was barred from negotiating with any banks regarding the project.

Councilor asks people to take a stand vs con-ass

COUNCILOR  Angela Librado-Trinidad called on all Davaoeñoes to participate in the multi-sectoral rally at the Freedom Park today against the passage of House Resolution 1109 that will allegedly railroad the process of amending the charter through the constitutional assembly.
Trinidad, in her privilege speech yesterday, said while there remains no “judicial controversy” over the passage of the much-opposed resolution, the people should show their stance on the matter before the situation goes out of hand.

Gwen asks for ’army’ of deputies to fight against drug use

Barangays in Cebu province have to reactivate their anti-drug abuse councils and deputize their tanods if they expect to receive financial aid from the provincial government.
“I want to create an army and deputize all who meet the character and integrity standards,” said Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia.
She spoke yesterday to law enforcement officials at the Capitol where she vowed that the war on drugs would be fully supported by stakeholders especially in the grassroots level.
